Shamineau
Adventures boasts one of the few ice climbing towers
in the nation, standing 42 feet tall and offering
six climbable surfaces. This man-made
structure allows safe ice climbing conditions for
all levels of experience.
After brief instruction, climbers will
harness up and sink their ice axes into the icy
pinnacle. |

The Ice Climbing Tower is available for rental
groups. Call 1-800-305-8118 or
email for scheduling and availability.
Shamineau Adventures provides
helmets, ice axes, and crampons. Each climber must
wear boots to be able to attach ice-climbing
crampons. Every participant must also complete
a liability form.
The ice tower will be open
each year in late November to mid February, weather
permitting.
Ice Tower Construction
The ice tower's 42-foot tall skeleton is made out of
three vertical telephone poles planted in the
ground, with angle iron cross bars spanned between
them. Twine, rope or carpet pieces are then
placed on the angle iron to help catch sprinkled
water. At the top of the tower is placed a
sprinkler system, which emits a fine mist to build
icicles. The Icicles eventually get longer and
wider, forming the wall of ice. Before campers
climb, the Adventures staff inspect the pinnacle to
ensure safety. The ice tower is then ready to
climb on both the inside and outside surfaces. |
